Alchemic Horsemanship

Background

History

I grew up in Vermont, and organically (read that as self taught and bumbling through) learned to ride my first horse, an 18 year old Egyptian Arabian. He instilled a love of horses (and Arabians) that continues to this day. He taught me the importance of correctly trained equine neural pathways. Growing up I learned to take care of horses year round, and how they are truly part of a family. His passing at the age of 23 brought another Egyptian Arabian (Kanz, shown below) into my life, who taught me to explore deeper into the “why” of horse behavior.

My first formal education in the horse world happened when I moved to West Virginia to attend Meredith Manor International Equestrian Center at the age of 19. I moved with my two horses, Kanz, and Magick to attend a 2 year program in which I learned true educated riding, horse health, breeding and horse training. After graduation with my Riding Master VI, and Training Certification, I continued my education at Ohio State University. Between the two programs, I was able to continue my love of education of horse health and nutrition, and foster a deep set of skills surrounding their care.

After college, I began my first boarding and training facility, spending my limited free time volunteering in Equine Assisted Therapy, which will forever provide a beautiful lense to view horses and their magic. When the time came, I began to work at a large training and sale facility where I learned how to connect with horses in a short time frame, retrain them and sell them to ideal homes who wanted trail and obstacle safe horses who excelled in the arena as well. I was given the experience of assisting the management and care of the 180 horses onsite. After riding hundreds of horses and teaching many students multi day clinics from all over the country and Canada for several years, I moved to Colorado to continue my journey. I married my husband in 2019, and we reside in Moffat, Colorado on our off grid ranch. Most recently you would find me teaching at the Baca Grande Stables, but now I operate at my home base in Moffat, Colorado.

My philosophy on training has been developed based on my experiences, and lessons taught by the horses I have known. I believe that horses have an exceptional ability to learn and retain information based on how that information is given. Every day we have the choice: to train, or un-train the horses we work with. Equine psychology is the foundation in my horse and human training. I find that a horse that enjoys your company, and trusts you, will do all that is possible to help you in an emergency. And that level of bond is something I strive for with every equine relationship I build. Awareness of self (the human that is) also plays a huge role in the work that we do. My coaching allows space for the humans to progress in not just their horsemanship but in themselves, as what I call “weird and sometimes messy” human.

The practice of alchemy: To change something, or unify two separate entities towards a different end goal. Alchemic Horsemanship is designed to bring your equine relationship to be in alignment with your goals.
